Oman Filming permits explianed

  • General Filming permit

The process for acquiring permits here in Oman is straight forward, but there is a fair amount of documentation that you will need to supply. Below is some key info on the process.

A General filming Permit (GFP) is requisite for any production wanting to film inside the Sultanate. Omans temporary importation system is tied up in this permit as well, so with out the permit no equipment can be brought through customs.

    Lead time for acquiring permits:

    - 3-5 weeks depending on content and format

Documentation requirements for the General filming permit application:

    - Letter of Intent - This document should outline what the show is about, including commissioning body, content of the show, locations and any contributors that are confirmed. Details of company profile and selected previous works is also helpful to include on this letter.

    - Passport copies of all traveling crew and production

    - A full kit list including: Models, country of manufacture, serial numbers and values. Also required is a picture of the serial number on the body for each high value item.

    - Any support letters from end client or commissioning body, naming your company as your selected partner for the production.

    - We also require a signed letter from you declaring that we have been instructed as your local partner.

    Temporary Importation of equipment

Once the permit is issued, the kit list will be cleared to enter the country. You will need to provide pictures of the valuable items (1 x picture of the body and 1 x picture of the serial number as it shows on the body).

On entry a deposit of 10% of the value of the kit list will need to be paid to customs officers. This will be released a month after the gear has been successfully exited from the country.

    Crew Visa Requirements

Your travelling crew and production can apply for visas ahead of arrival at:  https://evisa.rop.gov.om.

  • Drone Permits

The General filming permit application needs to have been submitted before the drone permit process can be started.

Lead time for Drone permit: 6 -8 weeks

This can take even longer if there are any locations that are close to sensitive points of interest.

In certain areas there is a requirement for a military observer to join the shoot.

    Documentation required:

    - Detailed and accurate GPS location data for the shots you want to take

    - Flight plan

    - Risk Assesment

Outside of special cases, we generally require productions to use our drones for their shoots, as we have licensed drones and a licensed pilot in Jassim Jaffer.

If its requisite that your operator pilots the drone, then there are some extra requirements - please get in touch and we can discuss.
